The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a little crazy (in a good way). This is their first TV appearance ever - on Thicke of the Night in 1984. The interview is funny - but when they start playing - it is awesomeness - and a sign of greatness to come.

Right arounf the time of this video - as their fame was on the rise - two key members of the RHCP, Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons, shifted their attention to their other band, What Is This? Jack Sherman came on as the Red Hot Chili Pepper's guitar player.

Sherman didn't work out - feuds erupted on stage and off - and Slovak came back to the Chili Peppers. As chronocled in Anthony's book, Scar Tissue, Kiedis and Slovak got heavy into drugs over these early years and Hillel would eventually die of drug abuse in 1988.

On again and off again clean periods lead to some incredible albums. After they hit the big time, the RHCP would have smash hits like 'Under The Bridge', 'Californication', 'Scar Tissue', 'Otherside' and more.
