The RCMP have found the body of a 28-year-old man from the Tobique First Nation who drowned in the St. John River near Perth-Andover, New Brunswick.

On Tuesday at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called regarding a stolen kayak from the Tobique First Nation. According to the RCMP, they were also told a man had fallen out of a kayak on the St. John River near Perth-Andover - after the boat rolled over. Another man was also in the kayak but was unable to save the man who had fallen in the river.

A search ensued by local RCMP members along with assistance from the Perth-Andover Fire Department and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team. At about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday the man's body was located.

It has been determined that the kayak involved was the one that was stolen, said police. The investigation into the theft and the drowning is continuing.
