‘The Infiltrator’ Trailer: Bryan Cranston Says No to Drugs

Bryan Cranston’s most famous role to date (and the one responsible for his late-blooming popularity) was that of Walter White, the unassuming teacher-turned-manipulative meth kingpin on AMC’s hit drama Breaking Bad. His latest role has him slipping the shoe on the other foot as real-life DEA agent Brian Mazur, who infiltrated Pablo Escobar’s drug empire to engineer one of the most famous drug busts of all time. The first trailer for aptly-titled The Infiltrator offers our first look at this new dramatic thriller, which puts Cranston back in full-on mustache-mode.

The Infiltrator is based on Mazur’s own book and directed by Brad Furman, who previously helmed The Lincoln Lawyer and Runner Runner — two films that have already been largely forgotten. Perhaps the combination of Cranston, a great supporting cast, and a timely revisit of the War on Drugs and Escobar’s downfall, will prove more thrilling material than Furman’s other efforts.

Based on a true story, Federal agent ROBERT “BOB” MAZUR (Bryan Cranston) goes deep undercover to infiltrate Pablo Escobar’s drug trafficking scene plaguing the nation in 1986 by posing as slick, money-laundering businessman Bob Musella. Teamed with impulsive and streetwise fellow agent EMIR ABREU (John Leguizamo) and rookie agent posing as his fiancé KATHY ERTZ (Diane Kruger), Mazur befriends Escobar’s top lieutenant ROBERTO ALCAINO (Benjamin Bratt). Navigating a vicious criminal network in which the slightest slip-up could cost him his life, Mazur risks it all building a case that leads to indictments of 85 drug lords and the corrupt bankers who cleaned their dirty money, along with the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, one of the largest money-laundering banks in the world.

Co-starring Amy Ryan, John Leguizamo, Diane Kruger and Benjamin Bratt, The Infiltrator hits theaters on July 15.
