Codiac Regional RCMP arrested six youths following an attempted armed robbery at a gas station in Dieppe early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at the Irving on Amirault Street at around 5:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Harry Brown.

Witnesses said two teenage boys, displaying a weapon, tried unsuccessfully to enter the store before it opened for business. The suspects fled on foot. Nobody was injured.

The RCMP's Police Dog Services was called to the scene and followed a track to a nearby residence.

Six boys under the age of 18 were arrested inside the residence. Police said they seized a weapon and other evidence.

Sgt. Brown said three boys between the ages of 14 and 16 from Dieppe and Moncton are being held in custody and will be charged in connection with the incident. The other three were released.

The investigation is ongoing.
