Emera Maine says it is dedicating every available resource to the restoring electricity to its customers, calling in people from vacations and pulling in office employees to help staff the call center.

More than 11,000 customers in Washington County were without service at midday Saturday,  5,000 in Hancock County, and another 3,000 in Penobscot, Piscataquis and Aroostook.  Central Maine Power Company also reported about 2,000 outages across its service area.

Field crews and electricians will remain out in force today working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.  The heavy rain and wind is expected to subside Saturday afternoon and should help those efforts considerably. Emera hoped to have power restored throughout its service area by 10:30 Saturday night.

Officials are urging people to stay clear of downed power lines and trees which are in contact with power lines.

Emera Maine Customers may report outages or ask questions by calling the utility's Customer Service Center at (207) 973-2000 or toll-free at 1-855-363-7211.
