Pennywise is coming to Castle Rock … sort of. Rather than an official It crossover just yet, the new Stephen King-J.J. Abrams anthology series has added a familiar face to the cast, that of Bill Skarsgard (thankfully without the clown makeup).

IGN reveals that the It and Hemlock Grove star will join the Castle Rock cast as a series regular, though no details beyond “a young man with an unusual legal problem” were available. Skarsgard joins a cast that includes Melanie Lynskey as Molly Strand, Bloodline alum Sissy Spacek as Ruth Deaver, as the estranged adoptive mother of Henry (Moonlight star André Holland) and Suburgatory star Jane Levy as Jackie, “the death-obsessed and self-appointed historian of Castle Rock.”

Manhattan alum Sam Shaw and Dusty Thomason will helm the Bad Robot project, which Warner Bros. describes as:

A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Castle Rock serves as the fictional Maine town where many of King’s stories have been set, including The Dead Zone, Cujo, The Body and others. References to the town can also be found in Creepshow, The Shawshank Redemption, Pet Sematary, The Stand, Under the Dome, 11.22.63 and others.

Each season is likely to feature different characters and storylines, but connect with certain themes and characters from previous years. Check out the first Castle Rock teaser again below, and stay tuned.
