According to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, state police say the man shot and killed in an armed confrontation with police has been identified as 61-year-old Kenneth Kreyssig, who lived at the home with his elderly mother.

The two police officers involved in the shooting are State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller and Aroostook County Deputy Sheriff Stewart Kennedy.  Both have been placed on administrative leave with pay as the incident is investigated by the Attorney General’s Office, which is standard following a police involved shooting.

Smyrna is 14 miles west of Houlton.
