Around 12:15 a.m. Monday, members of the Woodstock and Perth-Andover RCMP responded to a report that a man had been shot outside a home on the Debec Road.

A 41-year-old man suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. J.P. MacDougall.

Police say 36-year-old Walter Michaud of Speerville was arrested not long after the shooting. Michaud was remanded into custody on a charge of discharging a firearm with intent to cause bodily harm.

Also on Monday, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Speerville, with the assistance of the RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Services, and a firearm was recovered as part of the investigation, MacDougall said.

Michaud appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court on Tuesday and was also charged with being disguised with intent to commit an offence. He remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Wednesday, September 14.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and say the victim and accused were known to each other.
