Officials say 54-year-old John Corneil from Smyrna, who was shot in Oakfield in an officer involved shooting last week, died Saturday at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Corneil was shot after three troopers went to the Oakfield Thriftway to arrest him late Friday morning. He allegedly challenged officers with a handgun, which was later determined to be a pellet gun, according to Lt. Col. John Cote from the Maine State Police.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland said he died Saturday at Eastern Maine Medical Center. An autopsy was being done Sunday.

The Maine attorney general's office investigating the incident.
