The opioid epidemic that is tearing through the U.S. has not missed Maine, and the cost for saving an addict from overdosing has doubled over the past couple of years due to price gouging. According to WGME, Gov. Paul LePage wants to force communities to collect from repeat overdose patients for the cost of the life-saving Narcan shot.

If they don't recover the money, the city faces a $1,000 fine. The first administration of Narcan would be free, repeated uses would require repayment by the agency that administered it.
