U.S. Senator Angus King held a video-conference with a group of students from Presque Isle High School Wednesday as part of his on-going “Capitol Class” series. Approximately 150 students attended the event in the school’s auditorium, most of whom are in the sophomore class.

“I really enjoyed speaking with the students at Presque Isle and having the opportunity to answer their excellent questions,” said Senator King after the Capitol Class. “I was impressed by their thoughtfulness and walked away thinking about how Maine has a bright future with such great students like these.”

“We were very happy and honored to have Senator King visit with us through a video-conference,” said Presque Isle High School social studies teacher Mike Waugh. “Our students were excited to ask questions on a variety of topics and all of us were impressed by the breadth and depth of Senator King's knowledge on things ranging from college affordability to national defense. It is always beneficial for kids to interact with their elected representatives and share their concerns and questions.”

Senator King began the nearly hour-long discussion by outlining his responsibilities as a U.S. Senator and explaining what a typical day in the Senate looks like. The students then asked him questions about a wide range of topics that included veterans’ services, the national debt, the Syrian refugee crisis, his work on the Senate Intelligence Committee, climate change, rural broadband access in Maine, and college affordability.
