Security Incident Closes Houlton-Woodstock Border [UPDATE]

Two Nova Scotia men were arrested in connection with a "security incident" that shut down the Houlton/Woodstock border crossing for nearly 12 hours on Friday. 

The RCMP said the incident unfolded before 10:30 a.m. and involved a "suspicious vehicle" on the Canadian side of the border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said two men in the car refused to get out or communicate with border officials.

The Houlton/Woodstock Port of entry was shut down throughout the day and motorists were instructed to use alternate routes.

The standoff ended around 4:20 when the men drove their car to the U.S. border station. A 21-year-old man from Halifax and a 22-year-old man from Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia were taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the vehicle was seized.
