The hustle and bustle of the holiday season has begun. Christmas has become more about "getting and receiving" rather than giving. It's sad, really.

When did Christmas become so commercialized and about buying the biggest, most expensive gift out there? I think it's time be get back to our roots and get in to the true meaning of Christmas. It's about doing the right things, donating your time, helping a friend or neighbor, and most of all, helping those who are less fortunate than we are.

Have you heard about Giving Tuesday? It's a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the giving season added to the calendar on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The second annual Giving Tuesday is on December 3rd, 2013. In the same way that retail stores take part in Black Friday, the goal of it is getting the community to come together for Giving Tuesday. They ask that partners create and commit to a project for or on Giving Tuesday and then help spread the word to their networks.

Families and individuals are encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them, whether that means volunteering at a local charity or donating to a favorite cause.

Something cool you could do would be the #Un-Selfie! Take a picture of yourself giving back and post it on your social media page with the hashtags #Un-selfie and #GivingTuesday. Pretty cool, huh?
