The director of consumer affairs for the New Brunswick Financial and Consumer Services Commission has cancelled the licence of Excellence Realty located at 176 De l’Église St. in Edmundston.

The agency’s licensed manager, Daniel Levasseur, resigned recently and the remaining director, Claude Dumont, does not hold a manager’s licence under the Real Estate Agents Act. Dumont has not completed the requirements for a manager’s licence, as outlined in a decision dated Dec. 13, 2012.

According to the act, every licensed real estate firm is required to have a licensed manager. Consequently, the agency’s licence was initially suspended when Levasseur resigned and surrendered his licence.  Provincial authorities say Excellence Realty was provided with an opportunity to be heard before the commission’s director of consumer affairs on May 18, but elected not to attend. As a result of the cancellation, Excellence Realty is not entitled to apply for a new licence under the act for a period of one year.

“To qualify as a licensed manager, the individual must have completed educational programs and examinations required by the New Brunswick Real Estate Association,” said Suzanne Bonnell-Burley, director of the commission’s consumer affairs. “Additionally, they must have worked as an agent, manager or salesman for at least two years during the last five years. The commission’s role is to protect consumers by ensuring compliance with the act and our review concluded that licensure of this agency was not in the public interest.”

Consumers who have a real estate listing with Levasseur, Dumont, or Excellence Realty are encouraged to contact the commission with any questions they may have. Full details of the decision and order are available online.
