According to the National Council For Home Safety and Security, safety has always been an important factor when searching for a new place to call home, but a wavering political system combined with an increase in violent crime has made safety the number one priority for many Americans. And because navigating through crime statistics can be a difficult and time-consuming process, the National Council For Home Safety and Security has done it for you.

Coming in at # 1 was Eliot, on the banks of the Piscataqua River, minutes from downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In 2nd Place was Kennebunk. Rounding out the Top 5 were Hampden, Yarmouth and South Berwick.

The first County city on the list was Caribou, coming in at Number 25. Presque Isle ranked a distant 38th.

The National Council For Home Safety and Security reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with its own population data and internal research. Any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI were eliminated and removed cities with populations under 5,000.

The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 100,000 people.
