A sad day for fans of Preacher co-creator and revered comic artist Steve Dillon, as the Hellblazer and Punisher icon has passed away at age 54. Dillon had worked on everything from Doctor Who, to Nick Fury and Judge Dredd, including the original Preacher art-work alongside co-creator Garth Ennis.

Word of Dillon’s passing had circulated Saturday morning over social media, before ultimately gaining confirmation from younger brother and fellow cartoonist Glyn Dillon over Twitter:

AMC Preacher co-creator Seth Rogen also offered condolences:

Dillon was born in 1962 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, getting into the comics industry at 16 years old with Marvel UK anthology Hulk Weekly, later working on Doctor Who Magazine, and eventually launching his own Deadline magazine. He is best remembered for collaborations with writer Garth Ennis, beginning with the original Hellblazer comics, and eventually Preacher and The Punisher.

No immediate information was made available of the circumstances behind Dillon’s passing, but best thoughts to the family, and all those remembering his work.
