Veterans Day is on November 12, and though no particular events are planned to celebrate our heroes, you can still do something special for them. Here are a few ideas to help you get inspired.

Volunteer: Your family and you can make a day of it, since school is out that day. You can take your kids by the local Veterans office and spend a few hours listening to these brave men recall war memories. That way not only will your children get to learn something new, but also will show the veterans that they are remembered.

Bake: If you are pressed for time you can always bake something for them and just drop it off in the morning before you head off to the office. You can make cookies, cake, pies. Anything you make - it will make these men smile!

Recordable Photo Albums: If your grandfather is a veteran, but he lives far away, you still have plenty of time to get a recordable album. Select photos of you two together and record yourself retelling favorite memories you’ve shared.

Visit the cemetery: The cemetery in Caribou will host a ‘Veterans Day ceremony at the Maine Veterans Cemetery’ - It includes an introduction, invocation, national anthem, special speakers, the laying of the wreath, a three-volley salute, taps and a benediction. Veterans and their families and the general public are welcome to attend. The cemetery is located at 37 Lombard Road.
