The Maine Red Claws in Portland will remain the sole affiliate team of the Boston Celtics for at least three more years.

The new deal announced today by the Red Claws and Celtics extends through the 2017-18 season.

The NBA D-League is a developmental league for young players, much like a minor league team in baseball. The upcoming season is the 7th year for the team in Portland, playing games at the Portland Expo.

The team is coming off its best season ever, a 35-15 record. First year coach Scott Morrison was named D-League coach of the year.

Celtics rookies Marcus Smart and James Young spent some time with the Red Claws during last season.
