Presque Isle Police Chief Matt Irwin said in a press release that three officers responded to mobile home #21 at 290 Skyway Street, shortly after 12:30 a.m. Friday. PIPD had received two separate calls reporting a man was threatening others with a knife.

While inside the residence, 25-year-old Brentant M. Lahey confronted and threatened Presque Isle Police Officer Kyle White with a knife, Chief Irwin said. This resulted in Officer White discharging his firearm.

Medical personnel were called to the scene where Lahey was pronounced dead.

As is the case with all instances involving the use of deadly force by police, the Office of the Maine Attorney General is investigating.

This is the second police-involved fatal shooting in Presque Isle in the past year.
