Deputy Sheriff Sgt. Erica Pelletier responded to the crash near the Sullivan Road shortly after 9:30, according to Sheriff Darrell Crandall.

The investigation determined that 42-year-old Timothy York of Presque Isle was impaired when he struck a moose with his 2000 Ford F-150 pickup. York was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, Crandall said. He was taken to the Caribou Police Department where he posted bail.

The only passenger in the vehicle, 31-year-old Jacob Chambers, was issued a summons for violating his bail conditions, which prohibit him from drinking alcohol. York and Chambers were not injured, Crandall said. The moose was killed in the crash and the truck is believed to be a total loss.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the site by Aroostook EMA.
