A joint investigation by the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office and the Presque Isle Police Department led to the arrest of 27-year-old Travis McDonald of Presque Isle late Monday afternoon.

According to Senior Investigator Tim Lowell of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, McDonald is being held without bail on the arson charge at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.

The Presque Isle Fire Department responded to the blaze at 290 Skyway Street just after 9 o’clock Sunday night and remained on scene for nearly 3 hours. The fire caused extensive damage to one side of the duplex, but both units are uninhabitable. The tenants made it out safely.

The rental property at Skyway Trailer Park is owned by Geary Bonville.

Lowell said the investigation continues.
