State Police are appealing to the public for their help in locating a driver after and accident in Madawaska Lake.

Police say 81-year-old Paul Chasse, of Frenchville, was traveling north on Rt. 161 in Madawaska Lake and was following approximately 200 yards behind another vehicle. Suddenly, a plastic, one gallon plastic container crashed through the windshield of Mr. Chasses’ SUV, and continued out through the back window. The container was a one gallon size typically sold in supermarkets that contained an orange flavored drink.

At this point in the investigation, it is unknown if the plastic container came off the vehicle in front of Chasse or Mr. Chasse met another vehicle and the container came from that vehicle. Mr. Chasse did not see the jug in the air prior to it hitting his windshield.

The vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Both Mr. Chasse and his wife Alice were transported to Cary Medical Center in Caribou for treatment of minor injuries primarily from glass cuts.

State Police are attempting to locate the driver of the other vehicle. It is possible they were completely unaware of the crash. If anyone has any information that may help in the investigation, they can call the State Police at 532-5400 for Trooper Corey Hafford.
