In the wake of Chris Cornell's death, many acts from the rock and metal genre have offered their tributes, but Pearl Jam, who had close ties with the Soundgarden singer, understandably waited a bit before addressing Cornell's death.

A majority of the band had played with Cornell in Temple of the Dog and reunited with the singer last fall for Temple of the Dog's first extended touring. Meanwhile, Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron played with Cornell in Soundgarden as well. Not going into detail, Pearl Jam's tribute to Cornell was nothing more than a photo of Cornell with his dog that can be seen below.

Cameron, meanwhile, posted on Facebook an old flier from an early Soundgarden show with the commentary, "My dark knight is gone. Thank you for the incredible outpouring of kindness and love."

Though Pearl Jam's members have yet to speak extensively about the death of Chris Cornell, guitarist Mike McCready offered some of the first quotes in a Seattle Times piece about the singer. “Chris Cornell painted in song the darkness and beauty of life in Seattle,” McCready stated in the article.

He later offered, “Chris means a lot to me today, as he trusted me to play on Temple,” McCready. “He handed me a dream in getting to actually play on beautiful songs, informed how I would play on Pearl Jam records in the future, I believe. Gave me the break into the music business I’d wanted since I was 11. He was a friend I will miss. I miss you, brother."
