With Jerod Mayo and Dont'a Hightower both coming off surgeries, the New England Patriots looked to add depth at linebacker by signing Brandon Spikes.ESPN's Adam Shefter is reporting that Spikes will get a one year deal to return to the team that drafted him out of the University of Florida. The outspoken Spikes often found himself in coach Bill Belichick's dog house and spoke poorly of the players, Belichick and the organization when he left last season to sign a one year deal with Buffalo.

During his 4 years as a Patriot he recorded 175 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 sack.

The Pats also released Chimdi Chekwa, a cornerback they signed as a free agent this off-season. This brings the number of cornerbacks to leave or be released by the team to 5, leaving only 4 on the roster at this time.
