Not even Christmas day could stop the New England Patriots from making moves and it did not result in a memorable present for TE Asante Cleveland.Cleveland was given his walking papers Friday so the team could sign rookie defensive back Troy Hill. Hill had been released by the Cincinnati Bengals. The move was made to add protection to a thin group in the secondary.

Hill is an undrafted cornerback from the University of Oregon and spent time on the Bengals practice squad until the beginning of this month. In three games he made three tackles on special teams and three tackles on defense.

Should Cleveland make it through waivers he could be re-signed by the Pats and placed on the practice squad.

As the team gets ready to play the New York Jets on Sunday, the final injury report includes 12 players. Linebacker Jonathan Freeny is the only player listed as out for the Jets game. It appears that Julian Edelman will also miss the game. He is listed as doubtful which means there is a 75% chance he will not play.
