So I have 5 kids. My oldest daughter is a teenager who will be entering high school in the Fall. That will bring with it a myriad of challenges I'm sure. I'm not quite sure I'm prepared for them, but I'm not really worried because she's a great kid with a good head on her shoulders. Every parent says that, right?

Today was 'field day' at my soon-to-be 6th grader's school. I've been to this event before. A few times actually. Today was different. Today I showed up and my 5th grade boy didn't wait for me in the lunch line. I got my own lunch, by myself. I went to his classroom and he was almost done eating. I sat next to him and made small talk but it seemed he would've been perfectly fine if I wasn't there. This is all to be expected of course. He's growing up and it's not cool to have Mom or Dad hovering over you so my feelings weren't really hurt, but it cemented the idea that he's not a little boy anymore.

There are a lot of elementary schools in the area that are having these 'fun' days for their students. I'm happy to say I saw a few other parents at mine as well. But only a few. Don't miss this time with your kids. Your parents tell you that it goes fast. It really does. I only have to go through this 3 more times.
