The wounded man was taken to the hospital in Houlton to be treated. No police officers were hurt in the shooting that occurred around 11 a.m. on Ridge Road, said Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland.

Three troopers had gone to the Oakfield Thriftway to arrest the man as part of an ongoing investigation. There was an armed confrontation outside the store between the man and one of the troopers, McCausland said.
