The RCMP is investigating a three-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon just north of Bathurst that claimed the life of one man and seriously injured another.

Bathurst RCMP responded to the crash at around 1:50 p.m. on Route 11 in Madran. Corporal Roch Lizotte said it appears that a vehicle travelling north crossed the centre line and struck a vehicle heading south. A third vehicle, also travelling south, was unable to avoid the initial crash.

A 60-year-old man from Petit-Rocher who was the driver and lone occupant of his vehicle was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 23-year-old man from Dieppe, the driver and lone occupant of the second vehicle involved in the crash, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Lizotte said. The driver of the third vehicle, a 39-year-old woman from Nova Scotia, was not injured.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is continuing.
