Tim Soley, notorious Old Port landlord Joe Soley's son, wants to build Maine's tallest building in downtown Portland.

Soley's plan is to give Portland a big city look by building a 23-story skyscraper. The tallest building in all of Maine right now is the 16-story Franklin Towers. This would be wayyyy bigger.

This is super early in the planning process and he's gonna have to go through a million hoops to get this done. One of those hoops would be to get around the 125 feet tall limit Portland has on buildings. This building would be more than 250 feet tall.

He's hoping to build on property he owns at Union Street and Patton Court near the new Hyatt that just went up.

The goal is to start construction in about four to five years.

Portland has seen a lot of change in the past 10 years. Is this too much or good for the city and the people who work and live here?
