Dave Hakstol is leaving one of the prime college hockey coaching jobs, University of North Dakota, to be head coach of the NHL Philadelphia Flyers.

The announcement came down today as the 46-year-old Hakstol resigned from the school to take the Philly job.

In 11 years at UND Hakstol had a 289-143-43 record, including another trip to the Frozen Four Championship back in April.

He has coached NHL players such as Jonathan Toews, Matt Greene and even Flyers GM Ron Hextall's son, Brett. Ron Hextall made the hire of Hakstol.
