After losing losing a lopsided season opening game at Butler, the UMaine men's basketball team dropped to 0-2 after a close 90-86 loss at New Jersey Institute of Technology.The Bears led for a large portion of the first half but after falling behind late in the game had to resort to fouling the Highlanders down the stretch. NJIT hit their free throws including 5 over the final :50 seconds of the contest to hold on for the win.

Maine put four players in double figures led by Shaun Lawton's 20, Ethan Mackey added 18 and Zarko Valjarevic had 14 and 9 rebounds.

The Bears continue their five game season opening road trip with a game at Central Michigan on Friday.
