Today is a big roster cut-down day for the National Football League as teams have to get the rosters down to 75 players heading into the final preseason game.

Trevor Bates and Justin Perillo are the two lone former University of Maine football player left on NFL rosters.  Perillo recently caught two passes for nine yards in the third game of the pre-season for the Packers.  The tight end also had some great personal news as he announced his engagement to his girlfriend over the last couple of days.  Bates was drafted in the seventh round by the Indianapolis Colts and will likely still be battling for a final roster spot when those decisions are made this weekend.

Longtime NFL player Matthew Mulligan was released by the Detroit Lions on Monday night after appearing like he would make the Week One roster.  Center Bruce Johnson was also cut by the San Diego Chargers after just signing with the franchise.

The final roster cut-down date will be Saturday afternoon.
