New Ventures Maine will offer a free introductory business planning workshop at the Fort Fairfield Public Library on Tuesday, February 7 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.

Karin Petrin, Microenterprise Coordinator for New Ventures Maine in Aroostook County and the trainer for the workshop, notes, “This class answers the many questions related to business ownership and start up so you can decide if self-employment may be right for you and helps get you pointed in the right direction.”

This one session workshop will help you decide if self-employment is the right choice for you. The class covers the pros and cons of owning your own business, the steps needed for start-up, the major elements of a business plan, and the many resources within Aroostook County and statewide available to help you succeed.

Men, women, couples, and all entrepreneurs who are interested in starting a business are welcome in the class. Business owners who want a refresher on business planning, marketing, and financial cash flow planning are also welcome to attend.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” stated Tim Goff, Executive Director of the Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.  “We know that supporting local entrepreneurs is one of the best ways we can improve the economic climate of our region.  The classes offered by New Ventures Maine are a great opportunity for people interested in bringing an idea to market or opening their own business to see if their plan is viable, to learn about the challenges and opportunities they will face being their own boss, and to get more information about resources available to assist them in reaching their dream of being in business for themselves.”

New Ventures Maine will also offer Business Basics, a free three-week class, from March 2 through March 16 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

For more information or to register, contact Karin Petrin, Microenterprise Specialist at New Ventures Maine at 768-9468 or karin.petrin@maine.edu. Pre-registration is required, and there is no fee for the trainings.
