Neil Young Cancels Crazy Horse Concert In Israel
A spokesman for Young confirms today that the show was scuttled because of ongoing tensions between Israel and militants from the neighboring region of Palistine, saying they have "rendered the event unsafe at this time. We'll miss the opportunity to play for our fans and look forward to playing in Israel and Palestine in peace."
Young says, in the meantime, he will be making a charitable donation to the Louise Tillie Alpert Youth Music Centre of Israel, and to Heartbeat -- "two organizations that teach music to Palestinian and Israeli youth simultaneously by enabling them to play music together."
Young was scheduled to perform at Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park. Waters says concerts like this amount to tacit support for the Israeli political regime, which he has compared to the Nazis.
