The Federation, which represents about 14,000 current and retired teachers, has cancelled a series of rallies it had planned and says it will bring its members up to speed during a series of meetings next week.

Finance Minister Blaine Higgs has been pushing for changes to the teacher's pension plan, saying the province can't afford to keep topping it up.

Higgs says the provincial government is pleased that teachers have been willing to work collaboratively to create a pension plan that's sustainable for plan members and affordable for taxpayers.
