Maine Man Hospitalized After Nashville Plantation Crash

One man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday in Nashville Plantation, just outside Ashland.

State Police say 60-year-old James Gaughan of Baldwin, Maine was northbound on Route 11 in a 2014 Toyota Sienna van. Thirty-two-year-old Troy Theriault of Fort Kent didn't see the van when he pulled onto Route 11 from a logging road, according to Sgt. Chad Fuller.

Gaughan struck the side of Theriault's 2012 Ford pickup, trapping Gaughan in his vehicle,  Fuller said.  Ashland EMS extracted Gaughan from the van and he was transported to TAMC with numerous broken bones and other injuries.

State police said Gaughan suffered a broken wrist, arm, collar bone, several broken ribs, pelvis, and femur. Due the severity of his injuries Gaughan was flown to a Bangor hospital for treatment.

Route 11 was closed for a short time Tuesday while emergency personnel worked at the scene. Maine State Trooper Adam Stoutamyer responded to the accident, which remains under investigation.

Ashland Police Department and the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office also assisted at the scene.
