Maine Maritime Academy's Dave Muchnick has resigned as Mariners basketball coach after three seasons.

MMA athletic director Steve Peed told me that Muchnick cited personal reasons for stepping down as Mariners coach.

"Dave is a tremendously talented basketball coach and improved the program", said Peed. "He set up the program well for the future."

Assistant coach David Sloane will run the program as MMA conducts a national search for a replacement.

Muchnick's teams were known to be among the hardest working teams in the North Atlantic Conference, losing three conference games in overtime. The Mariners finished 2-16 in the NAC and 5-20 overall in the 2016-17 season.

Muchnick is a native of New York and he came to MMA after serving as coach at the Merchant Marine Academy.
