UMaine hockey was in a 1-1 game with Providence after one period but the Friars broke open the game with three second period goals on their way to a 5-2 win.

The UM loss, combined with a UNH win, drops Maine back to ninth place in HE with one game to play tonight.

At stake is that #8 spot which means hosting next weekend's best-of-three first round playoff series.

Stu Higgins and Ben Hutton scored the Maine goals. Matt Morris made 37 saves.

South Portland native Jon Gillies made 19 saves for the Friars.
