Today in news filed under No Doy, Lin-Manuel Miranda has confirmed what we’ve all suspected ever since Hamilton became a Broadway sensation: The inevitable film adaptation is definitely coming…just, not anytime in the imminent future. Between plotting epic fantasy franchises and working on animated feature projects, Miranda is a pretty busy guy, to say the least. Besides, he just finished his run on the hit historical musical. Give the man a moment, will you?

Following his Hamilton bow, Miranda has become increasingly busy — sort of like the Dwayne Johnson of the theater crowd. He definitely has some exciting projects on his plate, including a secret animated film with Zootopia co-director Byron Howard and an ambitious film and tie-in TV series adaptation of Kingkiller Chronicle. So his plate’s looking pretty full already, leaving little room for, I dunno, adapting and starring in a film version of Hamilton.

THAT SAID, Miranda recently guested on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast, where he confirmed that a Hamilton movie is indeed in the works. “Yes! Who knows when?” he said when asked about the possibility. “I don’t think I’m done with that role, by any stretch,” Miranda added, and went on to reveal that he recently read the first draft of a screenplay for a film adaptation of another one of his hit musicals: In the Heights. That project has been in development for several years, but picked up some serious steam last year.

As for what’s next, the impressively prolific Miranda offered “the most cliched answer in the history of Hollywood,” revealing that he really wants to direct. It just so happens that there’s an opening for someone to direct a certain movie based on a certain crazy-popular musical. Just saying.
