One woman is facing charges after the cleaning staff discovered what appeared to be a meth lab in her Brewer hotel room Thursday morning, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

The MDEA lab team responded to the Vacationland Inn on Wilson Street Thursday afternoon and confirmed that the material was an active meth lab.

The hotel’s other guests were evacuated as drug agents in protective suits removed the dangerous materials from the room. It was expected that they would be allowed back into the hotel Thursday evening.

The woman who had rented the room was arrested earlier by Brewer Police on an unrelated charge, McCausland said.  Twenty-nine-year-old Erica Hodgdon of Bangor is being held at the Penobscot County Jail charged with drug trafficking.

Last year, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency responded to 37 meth lab incidents in the state. Thursday’s bust was the 38th in 2015, setting a new record.
