A 69-year-old woman from Massachusetts was killed Thursday when her car collided with a tractor-trailer along Route 1 in the southern Aroostook County town of Orient.

Maine State Police and emergency responders were called to the crash around 12:15 p.m.

Police say  Darlene Williams of Charlton City, Mass. was turning onto Route 1 from the Beaver Brook Road in her 2006 Kia Sorento and failed to yield the right of way.  David Gardner, 72, of Patten was driving north in a 2004 International trailer truck. State police say Gardner attempted to stop but was unable to, due to the snow-covered roads, and struck the driver's side of the car.

Williams was not wearing her seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Gardner was not injured in the crash but was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital to be checked out.
