Mars Hill Woman Accused of Stealing Over $26,000 from ATV Club

Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputies have charged a 49-year-old woman from Mars Hill, with stealing more than $26,000 from the Big 13 ATV Club, based in Mars Hill, over a four year period.

Authorities say Candace Giberson served as treasurer of the club and is accused of committing the thefts between 2010 and August of this year.

According to Chief Deputy Sheriff Darrell Crandall, deputies arrested Giberson on Thursday and she was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. Her initial appearance in Aroostook County Superior Court is set for November 19.

The investigation began in late August when the club president noticed irregularities and notified authorities. Sheriff’s detectives began a criminal investigation which resulted in Thursday’s arrest.

Crandall says none of the stolen funds have been recovered.

The Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution of the case.
