A 29-year-old Bathurst man was killed when he crashed his snowmobile on a trail late Monday night.

RCMP say the man was travelling with a group of snowmobilers on a trail near Route 340, west of Bathurst, between California Lake and the Rogers Lake Lodge.

The crash occurred just before midnight when the victim lost control of his snowmobile as he was attempting to make a turn. The driver was thrown from the snowmobile and the machine collided with a tree, according to Sgt. Paul Roy of the Bathurst Detachment.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing. The man’s identity has not been released.
