RCMP officers, paramedics and local firefighters were dispatched shortly before midnight to Bas-Cap-Pelé Road where a car had gone off the road and struck a culvert.

The driver and two passengers, an 18-year-old woman from Grande-Digue and a 19-year-old man from Moncton, were taken to the Moncton Hospital. The 31-year-old driver succumbed to his injuries on Monday, according to a news release from Cpl. Eric Hanson of the Shediac RCMP.

The preliminary investigation indicates that speed and alcohol are possible factors in the crash. It is not known if the occupants were all wearing seat belts.

The investigation is continuing.
