According to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, a 57-year-old man was struck by a stray bullet at Moark Egg Farm in Turner Monday afternoon. Another worker was reportedly shooting a .22 caliber rifle to kill rodents and stray chickens inside a barn that was being cleaned out.

McCausland said the victim collapsed attempting to leave the barn and died as he was being transported by ambulance to a Lewiston hospital.  His name is being withheld until relatives out-of-state can be notified.  An autopsy was scheduled today at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.

Moark Egg Farm is owned by Land O’Lakes.

A team of State Police detectives spent Monday evening at the farm interviewing employees and continue to investigate the shooting.
