The suspect, Jules Côté of Moncton was arrested a short time later in a wooded area near the Saint-Léonard airport with the assistance of an RCMP police dog.

The driver, a 58-year-old man from Edmundston, was injured in the assault and remained in the hospital Thursday in stable condition. Investigators believe the victim and the suspect were not known to each other and that the suspect acted alone.

Côté appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court on Thursday and was charged with attempted murder. He was remanded into custody and will undergo a 30-day psychological evaluation. Côté is scheduled to return to court on December 22.

The investigation is continuing.
