Maine State Police from Troop F responded to 42 accidents/vehicles off the road this week due to a couple of small storms that traveled through the area.

Roadways became snow-covered and slippery resulting in a large number of accidents and wrecker calls for vehicles that skidded off the road.

Incident Type: ACCIDENT Date: 11/26/2016 Town: Houlton Trooper: Tr. Adams Brief Synopsis: Tr. Adams responded to Houlton to cover a motor vehicle crash involving a Houlton PD cruiser / deer crash that occurred while the Houlton unit was responding to a scene with lights and siren. The officer was not injured in the crash.

Incident Type: ACCIDENT Date: 11/26/2016 Town: Linneus Trooper: Tr. Bell Brief Synopsis: Tr. Adam Bell responded to US 2A in Linneus for a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup that went off the snow covered road and overturned onto its driver’s side. The male driver and female passenger were both juveniles and were not wearing seat belts. The driver was partially ejected, and the pickup pinned the driver’s leg to the ground preventing escape from the pickup’s cabin. Rescue crews freed the driver and passenger, and both went to Houlton Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening. The pickup’s rear tires had insufficient tread and contributed to the crash. The driver was issued a summons for not wearing a seat belt. MORE DETAILS AND PHOTOS HERE.

Incident Type: Theft Date: 11/26/2016 Town: Monticello Trooper: Tr. Bell Brief Synopsis: Tr. Bell investigated a theft at a roadside Christmas tree stand. The employee left the business and returned to find that bags of potatoes, multiple Christmas trees, and cash from a locked box had been stolen. Investigation is ongoing

Incident Type: BURGLARY Date: 11/23/2016 Town: Bancroft Trooper: Tr. Sylvia Brief Synopsis: Tr. Sylvia responded to a burglary complaint in the town of Bancroft. Camp owners arrived to find that multiple items were stolen from the camp. The investigation is ongoing.

Incident Type: ACCIDENT Date: 11/21/2016 Town: Smyrna Trooper: Tr. Saucier Brief Synopsis: On 11/21/16 at just after 8 PM Trooper Tim Saucier responded to I-95 in Smyrna for a motor vehicle crash. Through his investigation Tr. Saucier learned that 38-year-old Karen Lewis of Houlton had been driving north on I-95 when a vehicle struck her 2007 Toyota Camry from behind. The impact forced Ms. Lewis’s vehicle off the roadway and caused it to crash into several trees. The rear end of the Camry was completely crushed by the force of the impact with the other vehicle. The operator of the vehicle that crashed into Ms. Lewis did not stop once the crash occurred; but kept going. Ms. Lewis was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Later in the morning, after asking for assistance from the public, Tr. Saucier received information as to the location of the other vehicle and operator in the crash. Tr. Saucier located the operator who fled the scene at a local hotel and charged a Texas man for Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash, Driving to Endanger, and Operating after Suspension. Incident Type: BURGLARY Date: 11/23/2016 Town: Oakfield Trooper: Tr. Saucier Brief Synopsis: Tr. Saucier responded to an Oakfield residence after a home owner returned to find items missing from the home. The investigation is ongoing.

Overall this week, Troop F in Houlton responded to 133 calls for service.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.
