Maine State Police Troop F Weekly Report – April 18-24

Here’s a look at the activity log of the past week from Troop F of the Maine State Police, headquartered in Houlton.

April 17 – Trooper Endre summonsed two individuals for theft stemming from a case that was opened in January 2016. The theft was first called in as a credit card theft from a Mars Hill woman’s purse. Which lead to bank statements showing the card being used at five different businesses around the greater Presque Isle area. The individuals were summonsed for felony level theft due to prior theft convictions.

April 18 – Tr. Darcy charged a Merrill man with Class E Operating with an Expired License as the result of a traffic stop on I-95 in Oakfield. The man’s license has expired in September of 2015.

April 19 – Tr. Darcy charged an Island Falls man with Operating after Suspension as the result of a traffic stop in Island Falls. The man stated he was going to just drive at night now so he would not get caught.

April 20 – Troopers Saucier and Sylvia responded to Sherman for a report of a domestic assault. A 50-year-old Sherman man called stating he got a call from a female telling him she was strangled. The female was unable to be located and would not answer repeated calls from police. The man’s story did not make sense and was inconsistent with what he reported witnessing. The man was intoxicated and arrested for violating his bail due to conditions of no alcohol. The following morning the woman was contacted and stated the man made up the allegation and she was not assaulted.

April 22 – Tr. Casavant responded to a commercial burglary at Service First Automotive on the Griffin Ridge Rd in Mapleton. Numerous items and cash were stolen from the business and the case remains under investigation.

April 23 – An anonymous caller reported some bottles in a trash barrel at the park in Mars Hill that resemble one pot meth labs. Tr. Endre responded to the scene and found what appeared to be the remains of five one pot meth labs. Through a joint effort with MDEA and DEP the material was disposed of. The caller wanted to remain anonymous, but explained that he was afraid that children may touch the bottles and get hurt, he was thanked for the call.

April 23 – Troopers Darcy, Bell and Sylvia along with K9 Merry assisted the Houlton Police Department. A male on bail for DV assault, went to the female victim’s residence and violated his bail. He then called her 75 times saying he was watching her and threatening to come back to her house. He pretended to be someone else and also pretended to be a Trooper. Tr. Sylvia and Merry conducted a track from the victim’s house to attempt to find the male and while tracking, the male was located at his apartment and arrested without further incident. The male faces multiple charges to include VCR, DV terrorizing, DV stalking, Tampering with a Witness, and Impersonating a Police Officer.

April 24 – Cpl. Quint was dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle on the Fletcher Road in Monticello. The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department had a report of a stolen pickup about an hour earlier also in Monticello. Houlton PD heard the radio traffic regarding the stolen vehicle and observed it in Houlton. The Officer Matthew Quint activated his emergency lights and siren and the vehicle picked up speed and started south on Interstate 95. Trp. Sucy joined the pursuit in Island Falls and took primary. Cpl. Quint joined the pursuit in Dyer Brook. Ryan Young, 35 yoa from Caribou stole the vehicle from Monticello and lead responding officers on an approximate 70 mile pursuit. The right front tire and gone flat on its own and due to Young continuing to drive at high speeds the vehicle was forced to run on its rotor causing several small fires along the route. Young drove on the wrong side of the road on hills and corners during the incident. Young had exited the interstate in Island Falls and followed US Highway 2 back into Houlton. Troopers terminated the pursuit due to Young’s reckless operation but were able to pick it back up in Houlton when he turned onto North Street. Young then turned onto Court Street, Houlton, where Trp. Sucy was able to perform a PIT ending the vehicle pursuit. Young fled on foot and was captured by Sgt. Clark and Trp. Sucy. Young was taken to the jail by Houlton PD and Cpl. Quint.
