The Van Buren Police Department put a call out to surrounding agencies on Saturday January 25th, asking to keep an eye out for a blue 2013 Volvo bobtail truck tractor.

Van Buren PD had a hunch the tractor may be traveling south. At around 12:50am Sunday, Maine State Police Trooper Rob Flynn spotted the bobtail on Route 1 in Caribou, and initiated a stop.

The driver of the stolen tractor truck turned out to be 31-year-old Matthew Sands of Caribou. Sands was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, operating after suspension and other motor vehicle offenses.

Van Buren PD continued as the primary investigating agency while Maine State Police made the vehicle recovery and addressed the criminal traffic related conduct.

The 2013 Volvo truck tractor belongs to Vaillancourt Transport and is valued at $120,000.
