35 and a half years ago, 16-year-old Joyce McLain was jogging near her home in East Milinocket when she disappeared. Her body was found days later behind Schenck High School.

Until this week, Joyce's murder was a cold case, but one that's been worked on daily since her body was exhumed in 2008.

On Thursday, an arrest warrant an affidavit was issued for 55-year-old Philip Scott Fournier, who was 19 at the time of McLain's death.

Here's the official announcement from Friday afternoon from Col. Robert Williams of the Maine State Police, courtesy of our Townsquare Media partners at Q106.5 in Bangor.

McLain attended Schenck High School and was an honor student, cheerleader, musician and athlete.

Fournier is a registered sex offender. At his 2009 sentencing on unrelated child pornography charges, a federal judge had identified Fournier as a “person of interest” in the McLain murder. Fournier was released from prison in January 2015.

This is the second longest homicide investigation State Police have conducted that has resulted in an arrest. The longest – just over 36 years – was the homicide of Blanche Kimball of Augusta in 1976 and the arrest of her killer in 2012.
